Try Again Proverbs 24:16 - A righteous person may fall seven times, but he gets up again. Romans 5:3-5 ...Tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Once again God speaks to me through the life of my daughter Heather.) After reviewing the story of Noah, we decided to make a craft representing a rainbow. I found some colored beads and some string. We decided to make colorful necklaces with colors of the rainbow. Heather had learned a song at school that taught her the exact order the colors go in. She eagerly began putting the beads on with great care. She made sure each color was in the right order until she filled a long string full. With satisfaction on her face she brought the filled string to me to tie closed at the other end. Then in a split second she slipped and lost her grip and beads spilled off of her string onto the floor. I bit my lip as I watched shock and disappointment flush her face. I didn't know what to say so I just reached for her and pulled her close to me. Tears poured in buckets out of her eyes. I gathered up her beads for her and put them in a cup. I told her that I would help her put it back together. She insisted that she wanted to do it herself. I encouraged her to do so and explained that the necklace would be twice as special when it was finished and that we would cherish it forever because of her determination. She agreed and found a new strength and purpose in her project. I was so proud of her for her perseverance and character she displayed in this. As I thought about it, the Spirit of God opened the eyes of my heart to see that He also is looking for this character and determination in His children. He is right there to gather us into His arms when we are shocked and disappointed. And it is twice as special when after falling down on the way, we get back up and try again. |
