Desperate Have you ever been desperate? (true story) A man went to Disneyland with his wife and 3 little girls. As they were waiting in line to see Peter Pan, he looked and didn't see his 5 year old. He shouted to his wife, do you have her? She replied "you were supposed to be watching her!" He shouted to the sisters, "do you have her?" "We thought you had her," they replied. Within a nano-second, this man became DESPERATE! He wasn't worrying about what the people around him were thinking or doing, he was engulfed in a passion to find his daughter. Without hestitaion he overturned a nearby garbage can and climbed up on it. He began to shout with all of his heart and all of his soul the name of his daughter. It became contagious, as those around him felt his desperation and joined in the pusuit to locate her. The good news is, they found her at the front of the line. She had squeezed through the people and went right up front to see Peter Pan. The point of this story is to show an example of what it means to be desperate. How many of us can say that we are "desperate for God"? If we want to really experience His power in this generation, we have got to become that desperate. We have to forget about what people will think if they see us acting in that kind of passion and display of emotion. The man at Disneyland sure didn't care. Revival has to begin in each one of us individually. We have to "hunger and thirst" for God more than anything else. What is it that consumes your thought life? Has there become less and less room for Him in the midst of it all? Do not be decieved by thinking what you are doing for God is the same thing as relationship with Him. Revelation 2:2-4 says "I know your works, your labor, your patience, ... you have perservered and have patience, and have labored for my name's sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 3:15 says "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. So then since you are lukewarm, and niether cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, "I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing" and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.... (19) As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Deut. 30:20 love the Lord your God, obey His voice, cling to Him, for He is your life.. Deut. 20: 17 warns us to watch ouselves in case " our hearts turn away so that we do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods (things, people, position) and serve them. definiton of worship worship- to love, admire, adore, serve, think about, meditate on, live for, seek after, pursue. It says in Deut.30:11 not to say " God is too mysterious or far off, he is up in heaven and we are down here so how can we hear him and know what he wants us to do?" verse 14- But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in you heart, that you may do it. God promises to "circumcise your heart", to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. Duet.30:6 circumcise your heart- means he will change the desire of your heart and set it free from being attached to other things instead of Him. It is painful at first, but wonderful beyond anything words can describe if we yield to Him! |
